The Realities of Open Standards: Teletrol CEO Delivers Commanding Featured Presentation At 2003 BIG-NA Conference

Entitled "A Rose By Any Other Name", Andy McMillan Delivers Presentation To Conference Attendees On The Petals… And Thorns… Involved With Today's Building Automation Open Standards

Manchester, New Hampshire (November 17, 2023) - Mr. Andy McMillan, President/CEO of Teletrol Systems Inc., an industry leader in building automation technology, delivered the keynote presentation at this year's BIG-NA Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. Hosted by the University of Cincinnati on October 6th and 7th, this year's event brought over 200 manufacturers, end users and consultants together under one roof. This year's theme was "Users Take Control."

The BIG-NA conference, sponsored by the BACnet Interest Group of North America and co-sponsored by the BACnet Manufacturers Association, featured sessions on BACnet specification writing, project management, commissioning, and offered a series of up-close interoperability training sessions where vendors provided users and their consultants in-depth demonstrations and training on real world interoperability and multi-vendor systems applications.

Mr. McMillan's presentation, titled "A Rose by Any Other Name," focused on the realities of getting approval for open BAS system projects and the realities of getting them installed. "Open systems are still systems," said McMillan. "It is important to remember that "open" doesn't necessarily mean "easy", that "technoreligion" is not cost-effective, and that the learning curve still applies to the relatively new area of open systems in the building automation industry. Teletrol has promoted standards-based open systems since the mid-1980's and is an active member of the BMA . At the same time, we are committed to providing our customers with realistic information that enables them to use open standards more productively, and therefore more profitably."

Mr. McMillan's presentation, drawn from 20 years experience in open systems solutions, provided an eye-opening and pragmatic point-of-view for many users new to the idea of standard protocols in the building automation systems industry.
